Fuel saving and motorizing of automobile are improving because of draining petroleum energy and growing interest in global environmental issues.
Environmental response technology of automobile is shifting to electric power train technology by motor or inverter, development to Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), Electric Vehicle (EV), and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) is expected to accelerate more. Hitachi Group supply all inverter, motor, and battery as key component, and offer the solution (energy management) combined with smaller / lighter products required to automobile, and mechatronics improving control efficiency.
Hitachi Vehicle Energy, Ltd. produce lithium-ion secondary battery as one of the key products. Lithium-ion secondary battery has been used for consumer equipment such as cellular phone or PC, and widely contributed to making higher capacity and downsizing. Although these characteristics are suitable for automobiles, there are many difficulties for mass production to achieve the high safety and reliability requirements compared to consumer equipment. We've launched mass production and achieved practical use ahead of the world with all Hitachi Group technologies and know-how.
Currently new mass production lines with higher productivity are built to support our expanding business. We will continuously develop and manufacture more compact, quake-resistant and impact-resistant reliable batteries with in-house developed controllers.
